On January 10, 2025, the Bala Hydropower Station designed by Qingyuan Company successfully passed the gate closure and water storage acceptance. This significant milestone marks a new stage in the construction of the Bala Hydropower Station and has laid a solid foundation for the goal of generating electricity from the first unit this year.

　　The Bala Hydropower Station is the second hydropower station in the “3 Reservoirs and 28 Stages” plan for the main stem of the Dadu River. In 2018, it was listed as a key new construction project for the Western Development Initiative by the National Development and Reform Commission. The total installed capacity of the power station is 746,000 kilowatts, with a dam height of 140 meters, classified as a large Type II project. It is expected to generate an annual electricity output of 2.553 billion kilowatt-hours. Qingyuan Company has been responsible for the full-stage survey and design work of the main project since 2007. The scale of individual buildings is among the forefront in the hydropower industry. The main construction of the power station began at the end of December 2020. During the process, the company, along with all parties involved in the construction, overcame difficulties such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the “6.10” earthquake, high-temperature power restrictions, and limited external transportation. In-depth research and dynamic design were conducted to address complex geological and structural design issues, bringing important aspects such as slope excavation support and structural arrangement to the advanced level of the industry, while also effectively balancing functionality, safety, and economy.

　　From October 19 to 22, 2024, an acceptance committee composed of relevant units, departments, and experts organized by the Hydraulic and Hydroelectric Planning and Design General Institute conducted on-site inspections of the Bala Hydropower Station project entity and provided on-site inspection and technical pre-acceptance opinions. From January 8 to 9, 2025, the acceptance expert group reviewed the conditions for water storage of the project and formed the expert group’s opinions. On January 10, 2025, the acceptance committee meeting was held, at which the “Sichuan Jiaomuzhu River Bala Hydropower Station Project Water Storage Acceptance Appraisal Report” was formulated and the phase acceptance for gate closure and water storage of the Bala Hydropower Station was reviewed and passed. In the future, Qingyuan Company will continue to contribute its design strength to the acceptance of the water conveyance system and unit startup, ensuring the long-term stable operation of the power station.
