Heartiest Congratulations on the Commencement of the Chino Hydropower Project in Nepal
The Chino Khola Hydropower Project is located in Manang County, Gandaki Province, Nepal, on a left-bank tributary of the Marsyangdi River known as the Chino Khola. This project is classified as a small (2) type V class project and utilizes a run-of-the-river development approach. The dam site is situated in the mid-to-lower reaches of the Chino Khola, where a gabion weir is used for water intake. Water is then conveyed through approximately 2.5 kilometers of pressure pipeline to the powerhouse, which is constructed on a terrace on the left bank of the Marsyangdi River at the mouth of the Chino Khola. The power station is designed with a flow rate of 1.09 cubic meters per second, an operating level of 3054.50 meters, and a maximum dam height of 6.5 meters. The installation elevation for the generating units is at 2147.10 meters, with a gross head of 907.40 meters. The installed capacity of the power station is 7.9 MW, and it is expected to generate an average of 44.38 GWh annually. This project represents a significant step towards enhancing renewable energy capabilities in the region, providing both economic and environmental benefits.
The Chino Hydropower Station is the first overseas EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project undertaken by Qingyuan Company. The groundbreaking ceremony for this significant project took place on May 7, 2025. Upon completion, the power station will make important contributions to alleviating the local power shortage and providing essential electricity for the construction of cascade hydropower stations along the Marsyangdi River. This milestone marks a significant step for Qingyuan Company in expanding its international footprint and demonstrates its commitment to contributing positively to the communities and environments in which it operates. The project's success will not only highlight Qingyuan's expertise in executing complex international projects but also support Nepal's efforts towards sustainable development and energy security.
