Today morning, in Yanqi County, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, with the completion of the last wire spanning the Tarim Desert railway traction, the Bayingolin-Tieganlik-Ruoqiang 750-kilovolt ultra-high voltage transmission and transformation project achieved full line. This is also the first 750-kilovolt ultra-high voltage transmission and transformation project across the desert in Xinjiang.

The project starts from the 750-kilovolt substation in Bayingolin, Xinjiang, and ends at the 750-kilovolt substation in Ruoqiang, Xinjiang. Construction began in March 2023 with a total investment of 4.616 billion yuan. The total length of the line is 880 kilometers, and 90% of the project is in desert, Gobi, and barren areas.

It is understood that the Bayingolin-Tieganlik-Ruoqiang 750-kilovolt ultra-high voltage transmission and transformation project is planned to be completed and put into operation in November 2024. After completion, it will form a loop network around the Taklimakan Desert, covering an area of 1.08 million square kilometers, further optimizing the main grid structure in southern Xinjiang, significantly improving the ability to gather and transmit new energy such as photovoltaic power, and forming a 750-kilovolt hub-type backbone power grid pattern of “connecting the north to the south, extending to the west, and sending to the east,” which will strongly support the construction of the third AC outward transmission channel of the Xinjiang power grid.

As of now, Xinjiang has 28 750-kilovolt substations with a total transformation capacity of 81,504 million volt-amperes, and 80 750-kilovolt lines with a length of 10,165.19 kilometers. Xinjiang’s power grid has formed a main grid structure of “four inner supply loops and four outward transmission channels.” According to the plan, by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Xinjiang’s power grid will form a main grid structure of “seven inner supply loops and six outward transmission channels,” providing strong momentum for the transformation of Xinjiang’s energy advantages into economic advantages.
