Since August, the power load of Sichuan power grid has set a new historical record three times.
In recent days, Sichuan has been experiencing a prolonged period of high temperatures, leading to a rapid increase in electricity demand. On August 14, reporters learned from the State Grid Sichuan Electric Power Company (hereinafter referred to as “State Grid Sichuan”) that since August, the power load of the Sichuan power grid has reached a new historical high three times, with the maximum power load reaching 65.03 million kilowatts, an increase of 7% compared to last year’s maximum load. Air conditioners and other cooling appliances are working at full capacity, with the province’s maximum cooling load reaching 22.62 million kilowatts, accounting for 34.8% of the maximum load.
In response to the high-temperature challenge, State Grid Sichuan has taken multiple measures to ensure the safe and reliable supply of electricity. Previously, all 15 key projects for peak summer power supply in the Sichuan power grid were put into operation by the end of June, adding 9.81 million kVA of new transformer capacity and improving the power supply capacity by 3.7 million kilowatts, effectively enhancing the transmission capacity and power supply capacity of the load center in the Sichuan power grid.
At the same time, State Grid Sichuan has continued to strengthen the inspection and maintenance of key transmission and transformation facilities and equipment. Since August, special summer patrols have been conducted 950 times on 441 key lines and 332 important substations.
“While we are tapping into the potential of air conditioning loads and virtual power plants and doing our best to organize demand-side market response, we are also increasing the publicity of time-of-use electricity prices and peak electricity prices, guiding enterprises to scientifically arrange their electricity usage schedules, and actively shifting peak loads to off-peak hours,” a responsible person from State Grid Sichuan said. The company will continue to optimize the operation of the power grid, strengthen the management and control of the status of power grid equipment, and scientifically deploy repair teams and emergency supplies and equipment to ensure the stable operation and reliable power supply of the power grid during the peak summer period.
